Tending Our Garden
The Knights & Orchids Society is in a season of tilling and turning — of tending to our garden with intention and care. Like any committed cultivator, we know that before the harvest comes the labor: the digging deep, the uprooting, enriching the soil of our work to ensure it produces the sweetest fruits.
We are exploring fundraising in unique new ways to combat the constant threats to federal support. We are calling on our people to join the Community Advisory Board to help hone in on the needs of our clients. We, along with our dear partners at ACLU Alabama, postponed the Queer Black Visionaries Summit until October — a shift not in mission, but in rhythm, allowing the space for deep breaths and deep healing from a season of loss.
And, at the same time, we’re turning our eyes to the land that first nourished us: 21 acres in our original home of Selma, rich with possibility for our clients and the people of Selma and Dallas County.
As we soak in the rain of spring and the summertime sun, we move with excitement toward an autumn radiant with color, watered by community, and the harvest of our collective tending.
