Making History
And Carrying It Forward
LGBTQ+ History Month reminded us that history isn’t just something we look back on. It’s something we’re making every day. On Oct. 18, 2026, TKO celebrated 14 years of showing up, building power, and making history right here in the South. And let’s be clear: keeping a Black trans-led grassroots organization alive, growing, and accountable to our communities for 14 years is no small feat. In a landscape where resources are scarce and the work is often met with resistance, longevity is its own kind of victory. Fourteen years is a milestone worth celebrating — and, in many ways, we’re still just getting started.
This month, three of our staff members also attended the National Trans Visibility March in Puerto Rico, connecting with movement leaders like Jiyah Bolden and fellow trans advocates carrying this work forward. From Alabama to Puerto Rico, October showed us what it means to be part of a living legacy: honoring those who came before us, learning alongside those beside us, and continuing to build what our communities deserve.
